The Dreaded Scale

I never, ever weigh myself at the end of the day. Nor do I weigh myself after having gone out to dinner the night before, or after a big holiday dinner. I weigh myself every Monday morning, and a few times during the week just to make sure I’m staying on track.

I know there are many philosophies regarding how and when you should weigh yourself, or if you should weigh yourself at all. I think this is a personal decision. What works for me, may not work for you. Some people use how their clothes fit, if their clothes are tight, they cut back on what they eat. Some people measure their waist. There has been a lot of information recently regarding this method of determining your health risks.

My advice is to figure out what works for you. If it’s a scale, great. If it’s how your clothes fit, great. If it’s a waist measurement every few weeks. great. Most importantly, don’t obsess about a bad day on the scale, or a few pounds gained. Just keep up the good work, eat well and exercise, and you’ll maintain a healthy weight.
